The Kansas City Chiefs have made another splash in free agency, as they’re reportedly finalizing a deal to sign former Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Jarran Reed.

For any Kansas City Chiefs fans who have grown frustrated with general manager Brett Veach, he’s pulling off a move that will surely bring a smile to your face. That’s because a massive defensive lineman appears to be on his way to town.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Chiefs and former Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Jarran Reed are finalizing a new deal. Reed was released by Seattle earlier this week and Kansas City has wasted no time in adding him to its defense.

Former Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Jarran Reed will sign with the Kansas City Chiefs

Reed, who checks in at 6-6, 305 pounds, is coming off another strong year with the Seahawks. In 2020, the defensive tackle posted 38 total tackles and 6.5 sacks, while adding one pass deflection and one forced fumble.

Unfortunately for Seattle fans, the relationship between Reed and the front office turned sour after the team tried to restructure his contract. That conversation ultimately led to the Hawks releasing him, opening the door for Kansas City to slide in and sign him.

For folks in the Pacific Northwest, it’s got to add to the frustration that not only did the team part ways with Reed, but they’ll now be seeing him suit up with Frank Clark for the two-time defending AFC champions.

For Kansas City, talk about a great move. According to Ian Rapoport, it’s a one-year deal for Reed, who will step in and immediately make a difference lining up next to Chris Jones. The rich certainly just got richer here, as Veach no doubt pulled off a big move in landing Reed.
