George Kittle makes opinion on 49ers QB situation very clear
George Kittle gave his thoughts on what the San Francisco 49ers should do at quarterback.
When trading away three future first-round picks, a team isn’t looking to add a wide receiver. That move only happens for a quarterback, meaning the San Francisco 49ers will be targeting the future of the position early in the 2021 NFL Draft.
San Francisco agreed to send the No. 12 overall pick this year, 2022 first and third-round choices and a 2023 first-round selection to the Miami Dolphins for the No. 3 overall pick. Now in line to have options at quarterback, Kyle Shanahan will finally have “his” guy for the first time since becoming head coach in 2017.
That doesn’t mean everyone will be happy that Jimmy Garoppolo’s time is coming to end out west.
San Francisco tight end George Kittle recently appeared on the hit podcast and web series, 10 Questions with Kyle Brandt. During the interview, the 49ers’ top receiving threat said he still believes in Garoppolo as the right man for the franchise well beyond 2021.
“I get it, it’s a competitive sport and you’re competing for jobs every single day,” Kittle said. “You know, I want Jimmy G to be my quarterback. That’s what camp and OTAs and competition’s for. Whatever they do, I can’t wait to see what the team looks like in a couple weeks.”
Who should the 49ers draft with the No. 3 pick?
It’s clear San Francisco believes they have a roster that is ready to win-now. Both sides of the ball have the capability to bring another title out west. That was proven with an NFC Championship title in 2019.
Perhaps a better game from Garoppolo against the Kansas City Chiefs would have been the ticket needed to end the conversation of his status.
San Francisco will add a quarterback with the No. 3 pick. Based on speculation, the two front-runners are expected to be North Dakota State’s Trey Lance or Alabama’s Mac Jones.
Kittle might be upset at the current plan, but the writing is on the wall. We’ll see how much longer Garoppolo remains on the roster.
