Kirby Smart and Georgia football are on an absolute warpath on the recruiting trail as the Bulldogs are closing in on Ohio State for the top recruiting class in the nation.
The Georgia football recruiting class has added three recruits that are four-stars or higher in the last five days and are closing in on having the No. 1 recruiting class.
Georgia added commitments from five-star athlete Malaki Starks on March 24 then added four-star outside linebacker Jalon Carter on March 28 and then secured the verbal commitment from four-star running back Jordan James on March 29.
The trio brings the total of commits to Georgia football up to 11 as Kirby Smart could be in line to deliver another No. 1 class to Athens.
Georgia has trimmed the lead held by Ohio State according to the 247Sports Team Rankings with this furry of commitments. According to their rankings, Ohio State has 240.87 points compared to 235.55 for the Dawgs. Both have three five-star recruits and the average recruiting grade per prospect is 96.04 for Ohio State to 95.46 for Georgia.
Georgia closing in on Ohio State for No. 1 recruiting class
These two programs could jockey back and forth over the spring and summer months as they add to their classes.
It’s a long way until National Signing Day in late December but you can’t discount Alabama from making a charge, because Nick Saban’s team often ends up with the top class.
Georgia has commitments from three of the top four recruits in the Peach State, headlined by dual-threat five-star quarterback Gunner Stockton. They didn’t get the top recruit in the state with No. 4 overall recruit, Travis Hunter, pledging to Florida State, but expect Georgia to keep recruiting him until he signs his letter of intent.
Among the uncommitted recruits in the state, Georgia is in great shape to land four-star defensive tackle Mykel Williams, No. 1 tight end Oscar Delp and No. 9 offensive tackle Addison Nichols. If Georgia can add that trio, keep everyone in the class and pick up some blue-chip out-of-state talent, they’ll have a chance to win a recruiting title.
If they can flip Hunter, that may solidify they win it over Ohio State, Alabama, LSU or any other challenger.
