Mets make huge ‘final offer’ to Francisco Lindor leading up to Opening Day

The New York Mets have reportedly made a final, lucrative offer to shortstop Francisco Lindor.
Upon reporting to spring training, shortstop Francisco Lindor gave the New York Mets an Opening Day deadline to negotiate a contract extension. With the start of the 2021 regular-season just days away, Mets fans are getting anxious out of fear that Lindor will opt to select free agency instead.
On Monday, SNY’s Andy Martino reports that the Mets’ final offer to their new star shortstop is a 10-year deal worth $325 million. MLB Network insider Jon Heyman says that Lindor’s offer would rank behind the deals given to Mike Trout, Mookie Betts, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Bryce Harper.

Mets reportedly throw massive final contract offer to Francisco Lindor
This newest update comes after Lindor and team owner Steve Cohen met over dinner this past weekend with the deadline approaching. For Mets fans wondering what the offer was, here you go.
With Cohen officially purchasing the Mets, the team has done some unprecedented spending in free agency, which included the additions of catcher James McCann and reliever Trevor May. But their biggest get was Lindor, whom they acquired from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for shortstops Amed Rosario and Andres Gimenez, right-handed pitcher Josh Wolf and outfielder Isaiah Greene.
Lindor has impressed in his spring debut with the Mets. Through 17 games, Lindor has slashed .370/.433/.630 while recording four home runs, 14 RBI, eight runs scored and 20 hits.
The Mets know what is ahead of them. Lindor is on the verge of entering a loaded shortstop free agency class that includes Carlos Correa, Trevor Story and Javier Baez. The market was officially set once Tatis was given a 14-year, $340 million contract with the San Diego Padres. While Lindor is older, he is making way more in annual salary than Tatis is on his new deal.
Now that Mets fans know the offer, they will now constantly refresh their social media feeds over the next two days to see if Lindor will be a part of the team for the next decade.
