Michigan football schedule: The 1 potential trap game facing Wolverines
By Scott Rogust
Michigan football could end up falling into this trap when looking at the 2021 schedule.
The 2020 season was one to forget for Michigan football fans, players and coaches alike. The season was significantly hindered by the coronavirus pandemic, which limited Michigan to just six games and forced their annual Ohio State matchup into cancelation. Even with their abbreviated season, the Wolverines finished with a less than impressive 2-4 record.
Michigan is bringing back head coach Jim Harbaugh after signing him to a contract extension, as they look to finally contend for the national championship. But as is the case with every other team, they could fall into a trap.
Michigan could overlook a specific team at the end of the season
When looking at the beginning of his schedule, the Wolverines start their season against Western Michigan, Washington and Northern Illinois. Following that, they play the Greg Schiano-led Rutgers Scarlet Knights, who took Michigan to the limit in a 48-42 triple-overtime loss. While Rutgers could be a trap game, there is a much better candidate that fits the bill.
The Maryland Terrapins.
In Michigan’s final three games, they face the Penn State Nittany Lions (Nov. 13) and Ohio State (Nov. 27). Maryland slots right in between both programs on Nov. 20. The Wolverines will look to avenge their 27-17 loss to Penn State last season before facing Maryland. You know Michigan will be focusing on the Buckeyes, their most heated rival.
The Wolverines have not defeated Ohio State since 2011, and Harbaugh will be looking for the win that has eluded him since accepting the head coaching job in 2015. Michigan could be completely occupied in their quest to beat Ohio State that they may very well overlook Maryland and end up with a loss heading into the 2021 regular-season finale.
Michigan fans, keep your eyes peeled for the team’s final road game of next season because they could very well end up falling into a trap.
