Devin Singletary was not very good last season, and Zack Moss ended up being the better player on a per-play basis. The Bills just signed Matt Breida to add to the running game, but he will only compete for carries and has little chance to become the starter. Moss is the guy in the backfield.

Despite Allen’s ascension, the Bills still love to make the running back part of the offense. Moss and Singletary combined for 1,100 yards and six touchdowns. Moss had a nose for the end zone, taking four of those six touchdowns. The third-round rookie had moments of greatness in between a lot of inconsistency. He plays a power game, which might not work with the blocking schemes the Bills put forth.

That blocking is expected to get better this season. The team is expected to address the offensive line in the NFL Draft, and they brought everyone back from last season. After a strange offseason, this more traditional training camp should help the offensive line in the run game. They were very good in the passing game, which is a little more self explanatory in an offensive scheme. Now that these players have a chance to learn where to block and where their responsibilities lie, it will help Moss take a step forward.

Moss needs help from those around him, but teams aren’t exactly going to stack the box against the Bills next season. He will have room to run, and the Bills should give him the rock early and often. Eventually, he will help put the defense on its heels, and Allen could beat them deep to Diggs.
