2021 NBA Mock Draft 2.0: Chicago Bulls leap up the lottery, land their next big star
By Ian Levy
The Cavaliers have had a difficult season but Collin Sexton has emerged as a future star, Jarrett Allen was acquired as an anchor in the middle and both Isaac Okoro and Darius Garland have shown flashes and taken steps forward. But there’s still a hole at the 4 in that hypothetical future core and Barnes could be an ideal fit.
Barnes may need to add weight and strength to handle all the potential matchups he’ll see at the 4 but at 6-foot-9 with length, mobility and great defensive instincts he should be fairly versatile, especially with the defensive versatility of Isaac Okoro as a complement. On offense, Barnes functioned mostly as a point guard at Florida State making use of his well-developed handle and vision. He’ll need to be able to hit some outside jumpers and attack mismatches at the next level to truly hit his ceiling but his passing and mobility could really help unlock Sexton and Garland, freeing them from having to create everything off the dribble themselves.
There may ultimately be a bit too much overlap between Okoro and Barnes but the Cavs’ are in the place in the rebuild where redundancies aren’t a liability, they’ve about building a deep and talented team that’s ready for the playoffs.
