More bad news has arrived for the Washington Nationals, as general manager Mike Rizzo has announced that two more players have tested positive for the coronavirus.

With Opening Day here, Washington Nationals fans entered Thursday knowing that the team would be without at least five players due to a positive COVID-19 test and contact tracing. Now, even more concerning news has arrived for the club.

That’s because general manager Mike Rizzo has come out and said that an additional two players have tested positive, and there’s also an additional player who is “likely” positive as well. Earlier in the day, it was announced that Thursday’s showdown with the Mets would be postponed too.

At least two more Nationals players have tested positive for the coronavirus

It goes without saying, but this outbreak inside the Nationals clubhouse sure is concerning. Now, all the players who have tested positive will need to follow the necessary protocols and do everything possible to make sure they don’t spread the virus to other teammates or members of the coaching staff.

This is also the second consecutive season where the Nationals have been dealt some adversity on Opening Day. Last year, hours before the first pitch against the New York Yankees, superstar slugger Juan Soto tested positive as well. Fast forward to 2020 and now at least three players have the coronavirus, with a fourth likely carrying it as well.

While Thursday’s tilt between the Nats and Mets, which was set to feature Max Scherzer going up against Jacob deGrom, was pushed back, the expectation is that the two clubs will be able to get on the field this weekend to face off. We can only hope no additional positive tests come in for either club.
