Chiefs announce staff replacement for Andy Reid’s son after Super Bowl weekend incident
By John Buhler
The Kansas City Chiefs have replaced head coach Andy Reid’s son Britt Reid on their coaching staff.
After an embarrassing incident in the weekend leading up to Super Bowl 55, the Kansas City Chiefs have officially replaced former outside linebackers coach Britt Reid.
Reid had gotten into a car accident after he had been drinking at the Chiefs facility. A girl was seriously injured in the accident in the days leading up to the Super Bowl. Reid is the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. While Reid had been dismissed, we had to wait until the early days of April for him to be replaced. His successor will be Ken Flajole, most recently of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Andy Reid and Ken Flajole have a longstanding working relationship
This will not be the first time Reid and Flajole have been on the same coaching staff. They first linked up with the UTEP Miners in the late 1980s. Reid coached the offensive line, while Flajole was the defensive coordinator. They also worked together shortly after with the Missouri Tigers, where Reid coaching the offensive line and Flajole coaching up the defensive backs in old Big Eight play.
And prior to Reid becoming the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles in 1999, they worked together on the 1998 Green Bay Packers. Reid was the quarterbacks coach and assistant head coach, while Flajole was a defensive quality control coach in his first year of NFL experience. Flajole has since worked for seven NFL organizations, winning Super Bowl 52 with Philadelphia.
While it is never easy to fire your son, Reid was able to replace him with someone he knows well.
