Gonzaga’s Jalen Suggs broke Twitter with buzzer-beater to beat UCLA
By John Buhler
Twitter lost its collective mind after Jalen Suggs drained a game-winning 3-pointer to send the Gonzaga basketball team to the national championship game.
Thanks to Jalen Suggs’ late-game heroics, the Gonzaga basketball program has reached the national championship game for the second time in program history.
The No. 1-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs were undefeated heading into their Final Four bout with the No. 11-seeded UCLA Bruins. Gonzaga got their best test of the season against a feisty Mick Cronin-coached team.
While UCLA looked like the Bruins could pull off the monumental upset, Suggs, Drew Timme and the rest of Mark Few’s Bulldogs had other things in mind. What a game!

Jalen Suggs delivers the greatest moment in Gonzaga basketball history
Waiting for the Zags on Monday night will be the No. 1-seeded Baylor Bears. This will also be the second time Baylor has played for a national championship in their program’s history. These were the two best teams in college basketball all season long, and it is utterly fantastic that they get to duke it out in primetime one last time for all the marbles on Monday night in Indianapolis.
As for UCLA, the Bruins certainly earned the nation’s respect. They were one of the First Four teams in this year’s tournament. While the college basketball blue-blood has had its ups and downs throughout the 21st century, the Bruins are more than heading in the right direction under Cronin’s watch. We have to wonder how Cincinnati Bearcats fans feel about him succeeding now.
Overall, the 2021 NCAA Tournament has not given us a ton of great games. We have been chomping at the bit for something even remotely compelling for weeks. Thankfully, the second of the two Final Four games yielded us an instant classic. If the national title bout on Monday night between Baylor and Gonzaga is anything close to this one, then we are in for a real treat.
Congratulations to Gonzaga for getting back to the national title on this sensational buzzer-beater.
