Cowboys passing on K.J. Wright could be big news for Seahawks
With the Dallas Cowboys reportedly passing on signing linebacker K.J. Wright, the news opens the door for the Seahawks to potentially re-sign him.
One of the top free agents still available on the open market is no question veteran linebacker K.J. Wright. Wright, who has been stellar for the Seattle Seahawks, had been receiving plenty of interest from the Dallas Cowboys, an organization he has previously called his dream team.
Well, he won’t be headed to AT&T Stadium after all. According to Cowboys insider Mike Fisher, Dallas has decided to not pursue the ‘backer and won’t be signing him this offseason. Does this mean a return to Seattle could be in the cards?
The Seattle Seahawks must pursue K.J. Wright with Dallas passing on signing him
With the Seahawks re-signing Carlos Dunlap, why not make another move here and bring back Wright as well? The 6-foot-4, 245-pounder first arrived to Seattle in 2011 and has been a stud for the defense ever since.
Wright has appeared in 144 games, starting 140 of them for the Seahawks. He’s posted 941 tackles and 13.5 sacks, while also helping Seattle win the Super Bowl back during the 2013 campaign. Now, Wright is a free agent and has been testing the waters. Dallas seemed like a likely destination for him, but that won’t end up going down.
It’s now on John Schneider and the rest of the Seattle front office to decide if they want to bring back the linebacker for another stint with the team in 2021. Wright has become a fan favorite in the Pacific Northwest and the Seahawks supporters would no doubt welcome him back with open arms if the team does end up giving him a new deal. Only time will tell if that actually ends up happening.
