The Masters 2021: 5 dark horse sleepers who could win at Augusta
The Masters 2021 sleeper pick No. 4: Louis Oosthuizen (+7500)
Essentially since his 2010 win at The Open Championship, one that Louis Oosthuizen has done with relative consistency is step up and perform at an extremely high level in major championships. And that undoubtedly includes The Masters where the veteran South African has consistently popped up on leaderboards.
In his last six trips to Augusta, Oosthuizen has finished outright second and only finsihed outside the top 30 twice, one of which in an injury-plagued 2013 season (we can certainly excuse that). Moreover, he has five additional top-10 finishes at the other three major championships over the last six years. To put it simply, he’s a big-game hunter with an unflappable game.
Beyond his pedigree in majors, though, Oosthuizen’s game appears tailormade for playing well at Augusta. He’s smart with the driver, is one of the most respected ball-strikers and iron players in the world, and has been putting at an extremely high level this year. In fact, he ranks third on Tour in Strokes Gained: Putting so far while also coming in at ninth in his Around the Green numbers.
We’ve seen several players find some later-career life at this tournament and get some more major championship credit to their name. At 38 years old and with the way he’s playing and has played at Augusta, Oosthuizen is a player you shouldn’t be overlooking at these odds.
