With Sean Miller out, here are five candidates to be the next men’s basketball coach at Arizona.

After 12 mostly successful seasons, Sean Miller is out as the men’s basketball coach at the University of Arizona. With one year left on his contract, and seemingly little traction on an extension after the program was ensnared in the NCAA’s investigation, doubt about Miller’s future was natural and this outcome was inevitable.

Miller will leave Tucson with a 302-109 record (.735 win percentage), eight NCAA Tournament appearances in 12 seasons (11 tournaments), five regular season Pac-12 titles and three conference tournament titles. In a big picture, even without a Final Four run, it was a nice run.

But the Arizona program could certainly use a fresh start, and a fresh voice as it emerges from this past season’s self-imposed postseason ban and tries to leave the residue of the scandal behind.

Whoever steps in at Arizona will be coming into a decent situation, with resources not an issue to foster success. Here are five candidates athletic director Dave Heeke should have on his radar.

5. Tommy Lloyd, Gonzaga Assistant Coach

After reporting that Miller was out, Stadium’s Jeff Goodman named Lloyd as a candidate to step in at Arizona. He has been on Mark Few’s staff since 2000, and he’s been a prominent assistant/associate head coach since 2001. Yet, he’s only 46 years old.

Lloyd has turned away head coaching interviews throughout his time at Gonzaga. He has seemed in line to stay at least one more year, but the fresh opening at Arizona may change that.
