Authorities reveal primary cause of car accident involving Tiger Woods
By John Buhler
Tiger Woods was traveling nearly twice the legal speed limit before his February car accident.
While Tiger Woods is on the mend from his late February car crash, what has caused the accident has been revealed.
Woods was traveling 83 miles per hour in a 45 mile-per-hour zone when his loaned 2021 Genesis GV80 went off the road in Southern California. He was supposedly trying to meet Drew Brees and then Justin Herbert at a nearby golf course, but was running late. This is not the first time Woods has driven his automobile recklessly, but let’s hope this will be the last time this happens for him.
It was a frightening day when many sports fans thought they were on the precipice of losing an icon like Woods. His accident was only a year and changed removed from Kobe Bryant’s untimely passing in a helicopter crash in nearby Calabasas, California. Given the tough terrain surrounding Palos Los Verdes, driving at that speed can result in a horrifying crash like the one with Woods.
Tiger Woods will not be charged for excessive speeding during his car crash
TMZ reports a press conference involving the accident will be held on 1:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 7. Woods will not be charged in this accident, nor will he be handed any citations. TMZ also reported Woods accelerated before his car went off the road and tumbled downhill. The reason we know of this excessive speeding is that Woods waived his right to privacy on the accident’s cause.
Overall, while we are glad Woods is on his road to recovery from the accident, the root cause of it is still very much frightening. While he may not be well-versed in the area’s topography where the accident occurred, it cannot sit well to hear the most famous golfer in the world was traveling near twice the legal speed limit along a mountainside road because he was running late to the links.
Here is to a speedy recovery for the greatest golfer in recent memory and an icon of the sport.
