The New York Yankees lost another extra-inning game, so fans in the Big Apple are absolutely done with the MLB’s rule change.
Two of the Yankees‘ three losses so far in 2021 have come in extra innings.
Fans at Yankees Stadium are blaming the MLB’s extra-inning rule placing a runner on second base to start each inning after the ninth.
On Wednesday, as New York and Baltimore played on to settle their 2-2 tie, fans rallied together for a chant against the new procedure.
Fans at Yankee Stadium are chanting: "Play real baseball."

I feel like I have to save my: I hate the extra innings rule for a game we win in extra innings because people think that’s why I don’t like it, it’s not. I think it’s stupid no matter who wins. The beauty of baseball is the tradition, and you should earn every run IMO. #Yankees

A Yankees stats account pointed out the team’s general futility in extra innings since the rule was introduced in 2020.

The Yankees have had a tough time with the MLB extra-innings change
Why is New York so susceptible to extra-inning losses? It could be they just haven’t taken their chances when it matters. Helping out the other team with errors doesn’t help.
The Orioles took the lead in the 10th when Gleyber Torres missed a throw and Anthony Santander made it home from his spot on second. The run was critical as NY scored as well in the bottom of the 10th.
The be fair to the Yankees, they aren’t set up to benefit from the rule as a power-hitting team. Teams who play small ball have a built-in advantage when it comes to driving in the runner on second.
That’s what has fans so riled up, apart from losing, which is always worth a rant or two.
New York missed out on the chance to sweep the Orioles because of the late loss. They fell to 3-3 on the season. Now they have to head on the road for series with the Rays and Blue Jays.
