The Milwaukee Brewers are taking a significant blow to their infield with Kolten Wong being placed on the IL due to an oblique injury.

The Milwaukee Brewers are going to be playing without their star second baseman for a bit.

On Saturday, Kolten Wong will be placed on the 10-day Injured List with an oblique injury, sources tell FanSided. To replace Wong on the active 26-man roster, Milwaukee is calling up Jace Peterson.

At 3-4, Milwaukee is already off to a slow start in the NL Central, sitting three games behind the surging, first-place Cincinnati Reds. Wong was struggling to get off the ground in his debut season with the Brewers, hitting only .105 with a stolen bases in 19 plate appearances.

Wong, 30, is best known for his hands in the field, earning a pair of Gold Gloves over the past two campaigns.

The Hawaii native played his first eight years with the St. Louis Cardinals before joining their divisional foe this winter on a two-year deal — including a team option for 2023 — worth $18 million. Milwaukee is hoping for stable play up the middle, pairing Wong with youngster Luis Urias. However, Urias is also struggling to begin the year, hitting .095 over 21 at-bats.

Last year, Wong played in only 54 games due to the pandemic-shortened season and hit .265 with a .350 OBP, notching only one home run and five stolen bases.
