Jacob deGrom is literally doing everything for the Mets
By John Buhler
Jacob deGrom can do literally everything for the New York Mets, and they still will not win.
Death, taxes and the New York Mets letting Jacob deGrom down in his starts ….
No matter how brilliantly deGrom pitches in any of his starts, or even what the former Stetson shortstop does at the plate, the Mets are going to find a way to let him down more often than not. DeGrom is hitting .600 on the season, as a pitcher! On Saturday he threw eight innings, allowing five hits, one earned run and struck out 14. Yet the Mets still found a way to lose to the Miami Marlins, 3-0.
This is not the first time the Mets have come up painfully short for deGrom, nor will it be the last.
New York Mets once again give Jacob deGrom no run support whatsoever
It has to be so beyond maddening for a pitcher of deGrom’s caliber to have one outstanding start wasted after another. The only other pitcher in relatively recent memory I can equate this to is when Felix Hernandez was in his prime with the Seattle Mariners. It is a testament to their greatness, but habitually bad run support makes you wonder what could have been for both.
DeGrom is about to turn 33 years old and has only won 15 games in a season once. His 70-52 career record for The Amazins is fine and all, but keep in mind that he is a three-time All-Star, a two-time NL Cy Young winner and the 2014 NL Rookie of the Year in his eight year big-league career. Who knows how long he will be able to pitch at this level, so stop wasting his starts!
DeGrom can pitch one gem after another, but his teammates will never back him up at the plate.
