The Green Bay Packers could be adding this former Michigan football star to their 2021 roster.

With the No. 29 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers could potentially take former Michigan football standout Jalen Mayfield to bolster their work-in-progress offensive line.

While most Packers fans are likely pounding their fists on the table to take a wide receiver at No. 29, frankly, anything will be an improvement over last year’s first-round pick of project backup quarterback Jordan Love. Mayfield is a borderline first-round pick, but his versatility in the trenches could be exactly what the Packers are looking for with their late first-round selection.

How does Michigan football star Jalen Mayfield fit on the Green Bay Packers?

While Mayfield is not a candidate to replace Corey Linsley at center, he has experience playing both tackle spots for Jim Harbaugh at Michigan. With David Bakhtiari potentially on the mend from his season-ending injury, Mayfield can provide depth and insurance to a position group that needs to be better to prevent the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ pass rush from dominating the NFC once again.

Michigan has a long history of developing great offensive line talent, and Mayfield could be the next great tackle to come out of Ann Arbor. Though he is not going to be a star right away, he is going to be put in a favorable situation and one where he will have to play up to get some playing time. While drafting a receiver at No. 29 would be great, Mayfield at tackle is another option here.

By taking Mayfield at No. 29, the Packers could see another MVP season out of Aaron Rodgers.
