Michigan football: Wolverines trending for 4-star recruit, J.J. McCarthy’s high school teammate

The Michigan football team is honing in on J.J. McCarthy’s high school teammate for 2022.
If the Michigan football program wants to make five-star quarterback J.J. McCarthy very happy, the Wolverines will need to obtain the commitment from his former high school teammate in four-star wide receiver Tyler Morris.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Morris is the No. 3 player from Illinois, the No. 10 wide receiver in the country and the No. 80 player nationally for 2022. The 6-foot, 175-pound wide receiver from Bolingbrook, Illinois played his high school ball with McCarthy at Nazareth Academy before the five-star signal-caller spent his senior year at IMG Academy in Florida.
Morris has 24 official offers but is looking primarily at one of these five teams: Michigan, Missouri, Northwestern, Notre Dame and Penn State. Of the six 247Sports staffers who have made a prediction on him, all six picked Morris to play for Jim Harbaugh at Ann Arbor. It should be noted he has his first official visit coming up here in two months when he heads to South Bend on June 18.

Morris’ primary recruiter to Michigan is offensive coordinator Josh Gattis, with offensive line coach Sherrone Moore serving as his secondary. While it is abundantly clear Morris wants to play his college football in the Midwestern footprint, Michigan cannot mess around when it comes to his four-star recruitment. Landing him will go a long way towards McCarthy’s collegiate development.
Considering how many recruiting experts believe it is a foregone conclusion that Morris will end up in Ann Arbor, if he were to commit to any of these other four Power 5 schools, it would be absolutely devastating for Harbaugh’s program. You cannot let him go to blue-blood teams like Notre Dame or Penn State, as well as Pat Fitzgerald at Northwestern or Eliah Drinkwitz at Missouri. You can’t.
By landing Morris’ four-star commitment, it could do wonders for Michigan’s eventual resurgence.
