Cubs offense is so bad they’ve been nearly doubled up by the Dodgers

The Chicago Cubs offense has nothing on the Los Angeles Dodgers early on in the 2021 season.

After starting off the 2021 season with a 3-1 record, the Chicago Cubs have fallen off as of late. Following Wednesday’s 7-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday, the Cubs have now lost six of their last eight games. Most of that is due to their lack of hitting in what is normally a pretty potent lineup. But just how bad has it been.

The Cubs have recorded a total of 59 hits through their first 12 games of the season. To show how bad things have gone, the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers have put up 108 hits in 11 games.

We can hear the Cubs fans now, groaning at the sight of that statistic.

When looking at the Cubs’ official stats page, the best hitter on the team is third baseman Kris Bryant. That is right, the infielder who is set to become a free agent at season’s end and has been the subject of trade talks in recent years. Through 11 games, Bryant has tallied nine hits (four doubles, three home runs) in 37 at-bats.

Tying Bryant on the hits list is shortstop and fellow impending free agent Javier Baez, who recorded nine hits in 45 at-bats.

Through 12 games this season, the Cubs rank dead-last as a team in batting average (.163), on-base percentage (.254) and slugging percentage (.307). As for the Dodgers, they rank first in batting average (.285), on-base percentage (.379) and slugging percentage (.488).

While these numbers will make any fan of any team get stressed out, we must remind everyone that it is still the month of April. If this trend continues by the end of May, then it will be time to push the panic button.
