1. Once again missing out on top WR talent

Remember in 2020 when the Packers decided to draft just about every position other than wide receiver? That left Davante Adams to carry the load in the passing game, which he did in a big way.

But it made no sense to ignore a position of need. Now the Packers have repeated that mistake in 2021. And right now it is hard to have any faith receiver will end up being a position of focus in the draft. It should have been last year and the team used its first-round pick on a quarterback.

JuJu Smith-Schuster went back to Pittsburgh on a one-year deal worth $8 million. T.Y. Hilton returned to Indianapolis on a similarly cheap deal. Even someone like Rashard Higgins could have been picked up for a few million dollars.

No one was asking the Packers to go big and hand someone like Kenny Golladay a long-term deal. But the receiver talent was out there and the Packers whiffed once again. Having Rodgers at quarterback already serves as a great sales pitch in free agency.

There is still the possibility of the Packers drafting a top young receiver. However, it is a lot to ask a rookie to show up and fit into this offense that is trying to win a Super Bowl. There is no time for developing others at this point in Rodgers’ career.

The Packers sat back this offseason and missed out on some real talent that could have helped the offense in 2021. It appears the internal plan is to keep developing players like Marquez Valdees-Scantling and Allen Lazard and pray that Adams can continue at his normal elite pace.
