Braves: Freddie Freeman’s home run vs. Cubs still has not landed (Video)
By Scott Rogust
Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman crushed a home run off Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendrick’s in the first inning of Sunday’s game.
The Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs have each won a game apiece in their weekend series, with both looking to get the series-clincher on Sunday night. From the start of the game, the momentum shifted in Atlanta’s favor, thanks in part to first baseman Freddie Freeman.
In the top of the first inning, Freeman entered the batters box to square off against Cubs ace Kyle Hendricks, who had just gotten Ronald Acuna Jr. to ground out in the first at-bat. On the fifth pitch Freeman saw, he crushed a 82.7-mph four-seam fastball deep into right field to give the Braves an early 1-0 lead. Saying Freeman destroyed the baseball is not an over-reaction.

Braves: Freddie Freeman begins the home run parade in the first inning vs. the Cubs
This turned out to be a precursor of what is to come in the first inning. Once Freeman ran back into the dugout to celebrate with his teammates, the Cubs hit three more homers in the top of the frame. Catcher Travis d’Arnaud, second baseman Ehire Adrianza and outfielder Guillermo Heredia each took Hendricks deep to give the Braves an early 6-0 lead.
While Braves fans are ecstatic about the first inning, perhaps no one was happier than starting pitcher Bryce Wilson, who entered the game with a six-run cushion.
