Braves reveal the results of Ronald Acuña Jr.’s MRI after scary Sunday Night injury
By John Buhler
Ronald Acuña Jr. gave Atlanta Braves fans quite the scare on Sunday Night Baseball.
Atlanta Braves fans can finally exhale a massive sigh of relief after hearing the latest on the Ronald Acuña Jr. injury front.
The superstar outfielder injured his midsection diving back to first on a pickoff attempt. While he would eventually come around to score in his ninth consecutive game for Atlanta, diving head first didn’t help keep him in the ballgame. While Atlanta crushed the Chicago Cubs 13-4 on Sunday Night Baseball 13-4 to improve to 7-9 on the year, Acuna is day-to-day with an abdominal strain.
This leaves open the possibility Acuña starts in right field Tuesday night vs. the New York Yankees.
Atlanta Braves fans rejoice over the new of Ronald Acuna’s Jr. injury status
While Atlanta has largely struggled out of the gate, the Braves did take two of three over the reeling Cubs at Wrigley. Fate would have it the Braves will face a Yankees team that can’t get right out of the gate either. Though he could miss a game or two due to this injury, Acuña has been the hottest player at the plate this season. He is finally tapping into his undeniable superstar potential.
Through 16 games, Acuna is slashing .419/.486/.887 at the plate. He is leading the league in runs scored (21), hits (26), home runs (7), runs batted in (16), slugging percentage, OPS (1.373) OPS+ (253) and total bases (55). Atlanta already has the reigning NL MVP in first baseman Freddie Freeman, but Acuña could not be off to a hotter starter in his fourth big-league season in 2021.
As long as Acuña does not tweak his ab muscle, he could return vs. the Yankees this week.
