Georgia football: JT Daniels raves about Dawgs breakout receiver

Georgia football appears to have another star wide receiver on their hands, and JT Daniels sang his praises after the spring game.

The Georgia Bulldogs lost their best wide receiver when George Pickens suffered a torn ACL last month. Subsequent injuries at the position became a concern for a time, but there’s plenty of depth in place for quarterback JT Daniels.

Demetris Robertson, Kearis Jackson, Dominick Blaylock, Jermaine Burton, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint and Justin Robinson give the Bulldogs plenty of depth at wide receiver. But they had a breakout performer during last Saturday’s spring game, and Daniels raved about him.

Daniels had an excellent performance on Saturday running Todd Monken’s offense, which created some early Heisman hype around him. But the signal-caller praised the performance of freshman wide receiver Adonai Mitchell.

“Just about A.D, in general, he’s very twitchy, he’s a really good understanding of how to get in and out of breaks, which I think makes a really good case for him when he’s one on one, so that’s part of it, and part of it is him being in the X position gives him a lot of one on one opportunities to win, and when you see a lot of one on one you see your Xs get the ball more often than not. That’s usually just the way it works out, you go where the defense tells you to

“If the defense based on what they are playing saying D-Rob at Z, and Kearis at the F, and you take what they give you.”

Mitchell finished “G-Day” with seven catches for 105 yards and a touchdown. After a couple of early miscommunications with Daniels on back-shoulder throws, he found his stride.

Mitchell signed with Georgia as a three-star prospect out of Missouri City, Texas last December. Pickens’ injury has provided an opportunity to shine right away as a freshman, and Mitchell’s performance on the spring game stage was a nice start toward cashing in that chance.
