MLB Power Rankings: Red-hot Oakland A’s crack the top-10

The 2021 MLB season is in full swing, and there has certainly been more than a fair share of surprises thus far. Here are our latest power rankings.

The 2021 MLB season has brought plenty of surprises, including just how back the New York Yankees have been, and how good the New York Mets are. We have seen some usual bottom-dwellers get off to hot starts, and that is always good for the game.

With that said, here is our latest 2021 MLB Power Rankings:

If the Colorado Rockies wanted to have a successful season in 2021, they should not have traded away a superstar in Nolan Arenado. The Rockies have won two of their last ten games, and outside of a power surge from Ryan McMahon, who has blasted six home runs, there is not much to write home about.

The Detroit Tigers kicked off the 2021 MLB season in style, with Miguel Cabrera blasting a home run in the snow, but since their 3-3 start, it has been all downhill. Detroit has gone 3-7 across their last ten games and is currently last in all of baseball with a -28 run differential.

The Arizona Diamondbacks finally got a win from Madison Bumgarner, whose contract has looked more and more like a mistake since he came over from the San Francisco Giants. Arizona is led offensively by Eduardo Escobar, who has six home runs already this season but is only hitting at a .241 clip.

The Minnesota Twins have struggled to play consistent baseball this season and to make matters worse, they are currently dealing with issues from COVID-19. The Twins are also getting nothing from slugger Miguel Sano, who is batting under .100 for the season and is not the anchor of the lineup Rocco Baldelli expected him to be so far.

It seems like the Baltimore Orioles season-opening sweep of the Boston Red Sox happened so long ago, as they have played well under .500 baseball ever since. Baltimore has gotten great play from Cedric Mullins, who is batting .355 for the season, and Trey Mancini returning was a feel-good story, but looking ahead, this could be another long year in Charm City.

The New York Yankees are one of the worst teams in baseball, as they cannot hit in the clutch, have no starting pitching beyond Gerritt Cole, and they seem to just be going through the motions. Sure, you get the occasional blast from Aaron Judge or Giancarlo Stanton, but for the most part, watching this team is a snooze-fest in 2021.

It is still very early, and there is reason to believe that the Washington Nationals have a lot of good baseball in them this season. Sitting at 5-8, they have endured a five-game losing streak already this season and nearly swept the Arizona Diamondbacks in their last series, so patience is needed when it comes to this team so far in 2021.

Colin Moran and Bryan Edwards are off to solid starts at the plate for the Pittsburgh Pirates, who are inching closer to the .500 mark as we enter the middle of April. Pittsburgh has actually played decent baseball outside of a six-game slide earlier in the season, and have some exciting young players up and down this roster.

The Toronto Blue Jays may have lost three of their last four games, but based on young talent, this is a franchise that is trending in the right direction. Vladimir Guererro Jr. is batting close to .400, Bo Bichette is clutch when it matters, and before all is said and done, they could be a team battling for a playoff spot.

The Atlanta Braves finally got the bats to start working on Sunday night, as they used the long ball to make easy work of the Chicago Cubs. First baseman Freddie Freeman currently has five home runs this season, but the big story has been Ronald Acuna Jr., who is batting well over .400, has seven round-trippers, and could be rounding into the best player in all of baseball.
