Atlanta Braves third baseman Austin Riley got a shock when he took a baseball to the face while sliding into first base against the Yankees.

Of all the things Austin Riley imagined might have happened when he slid back into first base against the Yankees, he probably didn’t expect a baseball to the face.

The Braves third baseman was minding his own business, tagging the base after an out, when the ball smacked him out of nowhere.

As the announcers noted, he must have strong teeth.

Austin Riley was lucky to keep his teeth

Yankees outfielder Clint Frazier definitely didn’t intend to hit Riley with his incredibly timed throw. It’s amazing he was in position to make the throw at all after completing an impressive diving catch to deny Ehire Adrianza.

What’s more impressive, securing that catch or managing to smash a guy’s teeth in on an accurate throw to first base with your hat sitting over your eyes?

Whatever it was, the play, fortunately, resulted in no injuries for anyone involved. Riley was able to shake it off, apparently no worse for wear.

Riley wasn’t able to do anything more in the inning as Freddie Freeman was struck out to end the top of the third.
