Brooklyn Nets head coach Steve Nash says there is a chance that Kevin Durant returns to the court this weekend.

The Brooklyn Nets have not had the greatest week in terms of player health. In this past Sunday’s game against the Miami Heat, Kevin Durant left with what was later determined to be a left thigh contusion. That was relatively good news for Durant, who avoided a major injury, and things sound like they are getting better.

When speaking with the media on Wednesday, Nets head coach Steve Nash says that Durant is day-to-day with his thigh injury, but a return this Friday or Sunday is “possible” as long as he keeps progressing in his recovery.

Nets: Kevin Durant possible to return this weekend from thigh injury

After returning from a ruptured Achilles tendon in the 2019 NBA Finals, Durant has picked up injuries in his first official season in Brooklyn. Back in mid-February, Durant suffered a left hamstring strain that kept him out out for nearly two months until his return on April 7 against the New Orleans Pelicans. Then, he picked up the aforementioned thigh contusion this past weekend, but his return appears to be rather imminent.

This is good news for the Nets, who were dealt a huge blow to their starting lineup this week. James Harden, who has been out with a hamstring injury, suffered a setback in his rehabilitation and is out indefinitely.

In 24 games this season, Durant is averaging 27.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game while shooting 54.3 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from the 3-point line.

Based off Nash’s timeline and if Durant keeps progressing from the thigh contusion, the star will make his return either on Friday against the Boston Celtics or on Sunday against the Phoenix Suns. Given the team’s NBA Finals aspirations, they will need Durant to stay healthy for the final month of the regular season before the playoffs begin.
