Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes trolled wide receiver Mecole Hardman for trying to take Chad Henne’s jersey number.

On Wednesday, NFL players were rejoicing after finding out that team owners approved of a new rule that would pull the restrictions on jersey number assignments. That means position players like running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, linebackers and defensive backs can now wear single digit numbers.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman was obviously intrigued by this new ruling, where he tweeted out “#4,” complete with eye emojis. Of course, that is the number Hardman wore during his college playing days at Georgia. But, quarterback Patrick Mahomes trolled Hardman by reminding him that the number currently belongs to veteran backup quarterback Chad Henne.

There is a possibility that the number could be negotiated, but only if Henne is willing. Let us not forget that Henne has only worn the No. 4 during his time with the Chiefs. During his time with the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars, he wore the No. 7.

Hardman played three seasons with the Georgia Bulldogs, where he recorded a total of 60 receptions for 961 yards and 11 touchdowns. Additionally, Hardman returned 35 kicks for 875 yards and 39 punts for 592 yards and one score.

New York Giants safety Jabrill Peppers is currently trying to negotiate with kicker Graham Gano to land the No. 5, which Peppers wore during his high school and college days. Gano replied, hinting that it could take a Brinks truck for him to part with the number.

Will Hardman negotiate with Henne for the number? The only way we will know is at the start of the 2021 regular-season and we spot Hardman with the No. 4. Long wait, we know.
