Russell Wilson was a three-sport star in high school and this rare footage of his prep career provides a look at the Seattle Seahawks quarterback before he became a household name.

Russell Wilson might be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL these days for the Seattle Seahawks, but he used to be a three-sport star back in the day at The Collegiate School in Richmond, Virginia.

You can see from this rare footage from the mid-2000s why Wilson ended up getting a football scholarship to North Carolina State University. He played quarterback with the same poise he does today for Seattle. It also provides a funny scene of Wilson being crowned as the homecoming king.

While most people know about his minor league baseball career with the Colorado Rockies organization, most people don’t know that he also played basketball.

Wilson could have played in the MLB as a middle infielder. He had a great glove, good wheels and excellent plate discipline. However, he may not have been the All-Star-level player he is in the NFL at quarterback. As for basketball, Wilson was an undersized point guard who could see the floor very well, especially in transition. Clearly, he picked the right sport coming out of high school.

What this rare footage of Wilson’s high school athletic career tells us more than anything is you were not that good of an athlete in high school. To have a prominent role on all three major varsity teams is nothing to sneeze at, even if you attended a small private school.

Odds are Wilson was better at his third-best sport (basketball) than you were at your very best in your athletic prime.

It is cool to see Wilson’s athletic abilities on full display in other sports besides playing football.
