Houston Astros infielder Aledmys Diaz does a full split while sliding into second base for a double on Thursday against the Los Angeles Angels.

Sometimes, you just need to go all out when running the basepaths. If you needed an example of that, look no further than Houston Astros infielder Aledmys Diaz.

In the bottom of the second inning against the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday, Diaz ripped a line drive off starting pitcher Alex Cobb to left field and pushed along the basepaths for a double. Outfielder Justin Upton threw a laser to second base to try to get Diaz out. In the process of his slide, Diaz actually did a full split but managed to keep his right foot on the bag to be ruled safe.

Diaz appeared to have overshot second base, but he had the presence of mind and flexibility to keep his right foot on the bag to ensure he was safe.

The extra effort paid off, as Diaz scored on a triple by outfielder Myles Straw to give the Astros their first run of the game.

The Astros have fallen back to Earth recently following their strong start to the season. The team has lost nine of their last 10 games, including a two-game series sweep at the hands of the lowly Colorado Rockies. Now, they are looking to get back in the win column at the expense of the rival Angels.

Entering Thursday’s contest, Diaz is slashing .256/.326/.410 while recording one home run, six RBI, four runs scored and 10 hits in 11 games.
