2. The quarterback competition
The best part of any spring game is the potential for a quarterback competition to spark. Texas will expect to see fireworks from Casey Thompson and Hudson Card as they vie to replace Sam Ehlinger.
Thompson is the favorite after spelling Ehlinger last year. Card is the young gun who joined the Longhorns in the class of 2020 as the No. 2 dual-threat prospect in the country.
A few days ago, Sarkisian updated the quarterback battle, noting positives for both. However, he cautioned there were still negative plays to be fixed.
Fans will get a first-hand look at how well each passer has responded this spring.
1. Replacing Joseph Ossai
Joseph Ossai had twice as many tackles for loss and sacks as any other Longhorn in 2020. Now that heās gone for the NFL, Texas has to find a way to replace that production elsewhere in the lineup.
Ossaiās direct replacement may be Jacoby Jones, who has stood out for making havoc plays throughout the spring. A couple of TFLs or sacks on this bigger stage could prove heās ready to step up.
Thereās also LSU transfer Ray Thornton at outside linebacker. Thornton had two tackles for loss last year for the Tigers, but heās primed to grab a starting job and start racking up some serious stats based on his strong spring performance so far.
