Victor Cruz is in Justin Fields’ corner over Mac Jones as NFL prospect
The San Francisco 49ers have quite the decision coming next week with the No. 3 overall pick, but former NFL star Victor Cruz thinks Justin Fields is the right choice for John Lynch to make.
While Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson figure to go No. 1 and No. 2 overall, respectively, in the NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers have quite the decision to make with the No. 3 pick. Right now, the assumption is they’ll either rock with Alabama’s Mac Jones or Ohio State’s Justin Fields.
If you ask former New York Giants superstar Victor Cruz, though, there’s no doubt in his mind that the 49ers shouldn’t think twice and go with Fields over Jones. How come?
Victor Cruz has made it clear he thinks Justin Fields is a better prospect than Mac Jones
“Not to take anything away from him (Jones), because I think he’s a great quarterback and he’s going to do some good things, but if you compare his season compared to Justin Fields, Justin had those kind of ups and downs, so to speak,” Cruz told FanSided’s Mark Carman. “You can even kind of see where he was trying to fix certain things and be better. And he was still playing at a high level.
“Then he closed the season out with a pretty convincing performance, you know what I mean? (He did that) against some professionals who are going to be playing on Sundays on the opposite side of the field. So, I just think Justin Fields is up there as well.”
Fields indeed put on a show in the College Football Playoff, reminding folks that he has a rocket for an arm. In his Ohio State Pro Day, he was electric as well and performed outstandingly with Lynch, Kyle Shanahan and others from San Francisco on hand as well.
The 49ers reportedly love Jones as well, but Fields has turned their heads. Right now, it feels completely up in the air who the team will be selecting. If you ask Cruz, though, Fields could prove to be the better player when we talk about the two five years from now.
Victor Cruz spoke with FanSided on behalf of Old Forester Bourbon and the Kentucky Turtle Derby which will take place on Saturday, May 1.
