Bijan Robinson announces Heisman campaign in Texas spring game (Video)
Texas football has a star in running back Bijan Robinson, whose spring game performance proves he’s ready to take a run at the Heisman Trophy in 2021.
Steve Sarkisian has produced his fair share of Heisman Trophy winners. He coached Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush at USC. He called the plays that got DeVonta Smith to the top of the mountain for Alabama in 2020.
Now he’ll see what he can do to get Texas their first Heisman winner since Ricky Williams in 1998.
Lucky for Sarkisian, he already has a running back on the roster who looks fit for the challenge.
Bijan Robinson sure looked the part during the Texas spring game on Saturday. The Longhorns shared a highlight of the sophomore scoring a touchdown with a devasting cut.
Texas football is pinning hopes on Bijan Robinson after a bright spring
According to fans and media alike, the running back looked every big a Heisman contender.
That’s some serious hype, and not just from fans who are given to seeing Heisman candidates at every turn just because they’re wearing the right colors.
Robinson was the No. 1 running back in the class of 2020, ranking No. 15 in the 247Sports composite. Even in high school, he had all the makings of a future All-American.
He did what he could to live up to those expectations as a true freshman by leading the Longhorns in rushing with 703 yards and fourth touchdowns. He was third in the Big 12 despite being the only one in the conference’s top five rushers who averaged single-digit carries per game.
The Longhorns still have to sort out their quarterback situation following Sam Ehlinger’s departure. You can expect Sarkisian to lean on a proven playmaker like Robinson often in the coming season.
