Jose Altuve tests positive for COVID-19 despite getting first vaccine dose.

Jose Altuve might just have the worst luck of anyone ever. The Houston Astros second baseman has tested positive for COVID-19 and placed on the reserve list, despite having taken one dose of the two-dose COVID-19 vaccine.

“I felt really good all the way through, and I feel really good right now,” Altuve said Saturday via ESPN. “And I’m happy to be back here.”

Altuve was one of the five Astros placed on the reserve list on April 14, he’s the only player who is still on that list. There’s no clear date on when he might return to the playing field.

“It doesn’t matter if you got the vaccine or not, it’s not good to find out you were tested positive,” Altuve said. “Nobody wants to get that. And on top of that, you have to stay away from the team for 10 days. So I was just ready for those 10 days to be over and to be able to get back to the field and play.”

Though he isn’t able to play he says he’s still staying active off the field.

“It’s been very difficult just to watch the guys play on TV and not be able to be there with them like I normally do,” he said.
