Los Angeles Angels two-way player Shohei Ohtani took no chances and sprinted after hitting a home run on Saturday against the Houston Astros.
Whenever an MLB player smashes a home run over the outfield wall, you usually see said individual trot around the bases. Los Angeles Angels two-way player Shohei Ohtani, on the other hand, sprints after hitting home runs.
In the top of the third inning of Saturday’s game against the Houston Astros, the Angels found themselves in a 3-1 hole. Ohtani changed that by hitting a home run off the centerfield wall to cut their deficit to one run. Ohtani took no chances, as he ran full speed around the bases.
Angels: Shohei Ohtani sprints around the bases on home run vs. Astros on Saturday
You have to respect Ohtani giving it 110-percent all the time, especially on what is normally a home run jog for any other player. It is quite possible Ohtani thought the ball was still in play. That, or he wanted to get his cardio in, considering he was Los Angeles’ designated hitter. Regardless, we are fans of the home run sprint.
Ohtani’s home run was his sixth of the season. Entering this game, Ohtani was slashing .294/.333/.632 while recording 20 hits, 14 RBI and 12 runs scored.
