Stephen Jones has great news about the Cowboys’ offensive line for 2021
Stephen Jones, the executive vice president of the Dallas Cowboys, is hyping up the 2021 offensive line with key figures finally healthy.
Things couldn’t have gone more wrong for the Dallas Cowboys‘ offensive line in 2020 as injuries devastated the unit.
There’s good news going into 2021, though.
Dallas expects to have three key players at full strength, including Tyron Smith, La’el Collins and Zack Martin after they missed 14, 16 and six games, respectively, in 2020.
Executive vice president Stephen Jones could be optimistic here, but the idea of that trio being “as good as we’ve seen them in a long time” is very welcome talk for Dallas.
Injuries to Tyron Smith, Zack Martin and La’el Collins have hindered the Cowboys
Smith and Martin have been perennial Pro Bowlers at left tackle and right guard, while Collins isn’t far off reaching that status. A hip problem kept Collins out all of 2020, while Smith dealt with a neck issue and Martin struggled through a calf injury.
With those three healthy, the Cowboys would once again field one of the best offensive lines in the NFL.
If you think this gives Jerry Jones and company reason not to address the offensive line in the upcoming NFL Draft, think again. The uncomfortable truth is that Smith is now in his 30s and has missed three games at least in each of the last five seasons. Martin is also entering a stage in his career when injury is more of a reality. Aging does that.
Dallas still has an incentive to add an able body to the lineup if possible. That’s a move for the future as much as anything.
Still, knowing that Dak Prescott will be returning with a full-strength offensive line this season should bolster their hopes of controlling the NFC East.
