Ohio State’s Justin Fields won’t be the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, according to a report that the San Francisco 49ers have narrowed their choices.

The San Francisco 49ers are looking at two quarterbacks to choose between in the NFL Draft.

Justin Fields isn’t one of them.

According to a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, the 49ers will use the No. 3 overall pick to select Mac Jones from Alabama or Trey Lance from North Dakota State.

Since Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick for the Jaguars and the Jets are contemplating taking Zach Wilson from BYU, the first three selections should be passers.

Justin Fields won’t be one of the top three QBs taken in the NFL Draft

Fields will have to wait to find his NFL home. The question is, how long?

The Falcons aren’t in the market for a quarterback at No. 4. Neither are the Bengals at No. 5. It would be a surprise to see the Dolphins go that way at No. 6.

Ryan Wilson of CBS recently penned a mock draft with the Lions grabbing Fields at No. 7. At that point, it would be just as likely for a team to go up and get Fields. Having just acquired Jared Goff, Detroit could be a willing trade partner.

As for who San Francisco will take, the decision between Jones and Lance should be an interesting one.

Jones put up incredible numbers with Alabama and proved he has the leadership skills to win a national title. However, he’s not impressive athletically and may have benefitted from the Crimson Tide juggernaut.

Lance played against lesser competition at NDSU and played one unimpressive game in 2020. However, he has a huge arm and arguably the biggest upside in the draft.
