Baker Mayfield isn’t worried about long-term deal with Browns

Baker Mayfield is not concerning about getting a long-term deal with the Cleveland Browns.
When it comes to getting long-term extension with the Cleveland Browns, Baker Mayfield is not all that worried about it, and he really shouldn’t be either.
“A long-term deal I think is a little bit on the back-burner for me,” said Mayfield to Nate Ulbrich of the Akron Beacon-Journal. “I’m not worried about it. I want to go out and win games.”
Mayfield was extended the fifth-year option by the Browns earlier in April. He went No. 1 overall out of Oklahoma to Cleveland in the 2018 NFL Draft. Mayfield enters his fourth year with the franchise, and how he plays in 2021 and 2022 will go a long way toward him gaining that long-term security.
Cleveland Browns: Baker Mayfield not worried about long-term extension
After a disastrous sophomore season, Mayfield responded well last year. He played great ball in Kevin Stefanski’s ground-centric offense. Cleveland not only made the AFC Playoffs for the first time since 2002, but they won their first playoff game since 1994. Mayfield was not alive the last time the Browns had won a playoff game. He and his team are certainly on the upswing in 2021.
Mayfield knows that he has to keep winning to procure a long-term deal with Cleveland. While he certainly earned the fifth-year option, Mayfield has to be more consistent in the final two years of his rookie deal to ensure he is a long-term solution at the quarterback position in Cleveland. For the time being, he is their best answer under center since Vinny Testaverde or even Bernie Kosar.
Entering year four out of Oklahoma, Mayfield has the right mindset about a long-term extension.
