Joe Milton officially confirms he is joining the Tennessee football program on Instagram.

After serving as the Michigan football team’s starting quarterback a season ago, Joe Milton has officially found his new football home on the Tennessee football program.

Milton had been linked to the Vols a week ago, but nothing was official until he made it official by sharing a post on his Instagram account. After taking in the Tennessee spring game on Saturday, Milton made it official on Monday he’ll join the Vols.

Upon arrival in Knoxville, he is expected to compete for the Tennessee starting job along with former Virginia Tech signal-caller Hendon Hooker and incumbent Harrison Bailey. This will be Josh Heupel’s first year leading the Tennessee program, so it will be all about competition.

Milton shared an edit on Instagram of him in a Tennessee uniform.

Tennessee football: Former Michigan QB Joe Milton transfers to the Vols

No doubt this will be a challenging year for the Tennessee football program. One star recruit after another has been let out of his national letter of intent. That’s on top of losing several contributors to the transfer portal after the firing of Jeremy Pruitt.

It’s a big rebuilding job for Heupel who had some success previously with the UCF Knights, but anything better than pushing for .500 this year or fifth place in the SEC East will be a success with the Vols. Milton could help them hit on the high end.

What is an advantage about heading to Rocky Top for Milton is that Heupel does know quarterbacks. He developed passers at UCF and as the former offensive coordinator at Missouri. He also was a former collegiate standout in the early days of the Bob Stoops era at Oklahoma.
