5 teams that should already be calling the Yankees about Aaron Judge
The Giants are in a position to add talent, and if they wish to compete with the Dodgers and Padres in the NL West they’ll need to be aggressive. A top-12 payroll in baseball this year eases up nicely in 2022 and 2023, so trading for Judge and giving him a multi-year deal is certainly palatable. A corner outfield spot would be open for him, though right field at Oracle Park can be a tough bargain defensively (especially with Judge’s injury history in mind).
Trading for Judge is not without risk, even as a short-term proposition through next season. But team president Farhan Zaidi has put the Giants in a position to take some chances.
Yes, the Angels couldn’t get together with the Yankees on an offseason deal for Judge. Starting pitching remains a lingering need for them, so parting with any current or potential future big league arms isn’t ideal. But unless Jo Adell gets back on track, right field looks like a question mark going forward. And strictly focused on this year, Fowler is out for the season with a torn left ACL.
The Angels can never be ruled out of trying to add a big name. Circling back to try to get Judge at some point is easily possible.
