Kevin Love apologizes to teammates after inbounds meltdown
Kevin Love reportedly apologized to his Cavaliers teammates after his embarrassing meltdown Monday night.
The Cleveland Cavaliers decided to hand Kevin Love a massive $120 million extension in 2018. So far that investment has been an awful one.
Love has had trouble staying on the floor and the Cavaliers are headed toward the lottery once again. The former All-Star has had his fair share of outbursts during this tough rebuilding process and another showed up Monday night against the Toronto Raptors.
Love was frustrated after taking a few bumps and punched a ball into play that was thrown to him by the referee. The Raptors hit a clutch 3-pointer and all Love’s teammates could do was stand in shock. It turns out he decided to apologize for his actions.
A Kevin Love apology does not solve the issue at hand
Love apologizing is a nice thing to do. And he did in fact have a right to be frustrated Monday night. But his bad play killed a potential comeback and the ultimate goal should still be to win games. This is also not the first time something like this has happened since LeBron James departed for Los Angeles.
Plenty of fans want the team to simply move on from Love. That is not as easy as it sounds. He still has two years and just over $60 million still owed to him on his current contract. And what team is going to want to trade for him given all the negatives in addition to his decreased production on the court? He has only played in 18 games this season and is averaging just 11.7 points per game.
Both sides are stuck with each other for a while unless a buyout can be figured out. At this point, plenty of fans in Cleveland are simply over all these distractions during yet another losing season.
