Packers reportedly zeroing in on finally drafting a first-round WR for Aaron Rodgers
By Josh Hill
With the 29th pick in this year’s NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers might finally do the right thing.
Are the Green Bay Packers finally about to do right by Aaron Rodgers and draft a first-round wide receiver?
It certainly sounds like it.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano, the Packers are doing their homework on first-round wide receivers and have apparently zeroed in on Minnesota’s Rashod Bateman.
Green Bay has reportedly “spent time” with Bateman during the pre-draft process, which bodes very well for the Packers finally doing the most obvious thing they should have been doing the last handful of years: Getting their Hall of Fame quarterback some offensive targets.
This isn’t to speak ill of Marquez Valdez-Scantling or Equanimeous St. Brown, but they are not Justin Jefferson or DK Metcalf. Imagine what Rodgers could be doing in an offense where Davante Adams was lined across the field from A.J. Brown or Calvin Ridley?
Packers are reportedly looking at drafting a wide receiver in Round 1
The Packers aren’t the only team doing their homework on late first-round receivers. Fowler and Graziano mention that Green Bay is among a handful of teams looking at potential targets.
However, the mere fact that they’re being mentioned is enough to whet the appetite of fans hungry to finally see a draft pick that doesn’t smell like moldy cheese.
Bateman is currently ranked fourth behind Ja’Marr Chase, Jaylen Waddle, and DaVonta Smith on PFF’s list of wide receiver prospects in this year’s draft class. If the Packers don’t land the Gophers’ star, both LSU’s Terrace Marshall and Elijah Moore from Ole Miss have first-round grades and could be catching passes from Aaron Rodgers this fall.
