Craig Counsell gives incredibly vague update on Corbin Burnes’ injury

Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell could not have given a more unclear injury update on Corbin Burnes. 

When will Milwaukee Brewers hurler Corbin Burnes be able to return from the Injured List? The answer to that question remains totally up in the air, especially after manager Craig Counsell’s latest comments.

While meeting with the media on Thursday, Counsell came out and said that none of the injuries the team is dealing with right now are serious, but then when asked about Burnes, he said he can’t discuss it. What in the world does that mean?

Craig Counsell’s latest comment on Corbin Burnes sure is concerning

Burnes has been nothing short of sensation this season. The starting pitcher has been among the best hurlers in all of baseball. However, the fact that he’s on the IL with an unspecified injury sure has plenty of folks in Milwaukee a bit nervous. It’s easy to understand why.

Thus far this year, Burnes is 2-2 with a head-turning 1.53 ERA in five starts. Even more incredible, Burnes has 49 strikeouts in only 29.1 innings of work. He’s been sitting down batters with ease this spring, and you know Counsell loves seeing it every time.

Burnes is also on the verge of making history, as he has his 49 strikeouts without giving up any walks. Kenley Jansen holds the record of 51 strikeouts without a walk. Only three more and Burnes will pass him. For now, though, Burnes’ chase to break that record has been put on hold due to his time on the Injured List.

It’s been a season of adversity for the Brewers thus far, as 14 players are on the Injured list. That’s insane. We’ll see how long Burnes is out, but the hope is he can get back as soon as possible.
