MLB has fired Roberto Alomar as a consultant because of sexual misconduct allegations.

Roberto Alomar is a Hall-of-Fame second baseman who played all around MLB during his illustrious career. In retirement he got a job as a special consultant to MLB, while also working with the Toronto Blue Jays.

A major story dropped Friday detailing how Alomar was fired and also banned from baseball after an investigation into a sexual assault allegation.

Roberto Alomar fired and banned from baseball

Alomar being banned from baseball means this was clearly a very serious situation. The Blue Jays are also reportedly removing him from their Level of Excellence. This ban, however, will still allow him to remain enshrined in Cooperstown.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred explained in his statement how an independent investigation was conducted before a final decision was made. In the issue of fairness, Alomar released a statement as well.

What happens next remains a mystery. MLB conducted its investigation and decided to both fire and ban Alomar from the game. Can he apply for reinstatement at any point? This may have to go through the legal system for anything to change.

Alomar made 12 All-Star Games during his career and won two World Series titles with the Blue Jays. He also won 10 Gold Gloves and made himself a clear choice for enshrinement in the Hall of Fame.

But what he did on the field should not excuse anything negative he does off the field. Following the investigation, Alomar does have a chance to disprove the allegations. For now, he remains banned from the game.
