The Minnesota Vikings selected Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond in the second round of the NFL Draft, opening the door for a Kirk Cousins exit in a few seasons.
The Vikings likely won’t move on from Cousins until after the 2022 season, as he has two fully-guaranteed years left on his contract. Yet, the selection of Mond is a sign of things to come, as the Vikings aren’t thrilled with Cousins production during his tenure in Minneapolis.
Cousins is on the verge of ‘very good’, but almost certainly not there yet. Considering he is 32 years old, it’s unlikely Cousins gets any better than his current form. The Vikings, like most teams in this league, are looking for elite production under center. It’s why they gave Cousins his contract in the first place.
NFL fans think it’s hilarious that Kirk Cousins is on his way out of Minnesota
Mond is by no means a guaranteed starter in two years, but if the Vikings are willing to take a quarterback this high, it speaks to their future intentions.
Football fans had a field day at Cousins’ expense.

Cousins could very well prove us all wrong with an excellent season in 2021. It’ll be interesting to see how he performs with his back up against the wall.
For the first time in his Vikings career, Minnesota has acted upon concerns he’ll never reach that elite status. We’ll see if he’s up for the challenge.
