Dodgers pitcher Dustin May winces in pain after pitch, leaves game
By Scott Rogust
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Dustin May left Saturday’s game after a throw against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have not had the greatest start to their weekend, as they lost the first two games of their four-game set against the Milwaukee Brewers. On Saturday, the Dodgers suffered a potentially brutal hit to their starting rotation.
In the bottom of the second inning, pitcher Dustin May winced in pain after throwing a fastball to Brewers outfielder Billy McKinney and called over the team trainer. After evaluation on the mound, May walked to the locker room and was removed from the game. Dodgers reliever Garrett Cleavinger took over for May on the mound.
There has been no update on May’s injury status as of this writing.
Dodgers’ Dustin May leaves Saturday start with an apparent injury
This is the last thing the Dodgers needed, especially with the amount of relief pitchers already on the injured list. Entering this game, they already had the likes of Tony Gonsolin, David Price, Brusdar Graterol, Joe Kelly and Corey Knebel all on the 10-day injured list.
May did not have the cleanest start on Saturday. While he did strike out three batters through 1.2 innings, he also surrendered a solo home run to Brewers shortstop Luis Urias. That homer happened to be the previous batter May faced until he pulled himself from the game with his apparent injury.
Entering this start, May was carrying a 1-1 record, 2.53 ERA and 0.94 WHIP, while recording 32 strikeouts and five walks in 21.1 innings of work.
We will learn more about May’s status at the end of the game. Dodgers fans will no doubt be crossing their fingers, hoping it is not a long-term injury for the 23-year-old pitcher.
