These three Minnesota Vikings veterans could lose a roster spot following the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Minnesota Vikings missed out on a playoff spot after falling to 7-9 record this past season, and used free agency and the 2021 NFL Draft to improve upon their chances in the NFC North. Prior to the draft, the Vikings signed the likes of cornerback Patrick Peterson and defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson to improve upon the roster. Then, the NFL Draft happened.

At the conclusion of the annual event, the Vikings did have one of the better prospect classes in the entire league. With 11 rookies joining the Vikings organization, that means that some players already on the roster may end up being cut to make room for them. Here are three veterans who could be released by the Vikings following the draft.

player. 60. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Minnesota Vikings. Jake Browning. 3.. QB

With quarterback Kirk Cousins on the books for, at most, the next two seasons, the Vikings need to have some sort of succession plan in place. After acquiring two third-round picks from the New York Jets in their trade in the first, the Vikings used one of them on Texas A&M signal caller Kellen Mond.

While the former Aggies quarterback will not contend for the starting job right away, he does have the arm talent and running ability to eventually become successful at the pro level with the right development. Now that Mond is on the roster, that means someone has to go on the positional depth chart. Considering Nate Stanley was just drafted last year, the odd man out could be Jake Browning.

In 2019, Browning was signed by Minnesota as an undrafted free agent out of Washington. Browning was a former 2016 Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year after throwing for 3,430 yards, 43 touchdowns and nine interceptions for the Huskies. Browning has not seen any playing time with the Vikings as of yet. Even with Mond, the Vikings could opt to sign a veteran backup behind Cousins. Either way, Browning could be a cut candidate.
