Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ was carted off the field after colliding with second baseman Nico Hoerner on a blooper.
It’s unclear if either player called the other off, but the end result was Happ (it appeared) getting kneed in the face and thus removed from the game by cart. Happ hit a three-run home run to tie the game the previous inning, making this an unfortunate end to an impressing outing for the 26-year-old.
The Cubs have yet to provide an update on Happ’s status, as the Cubs (at the time) were locked in a tight contest with the Cincinnati Reds.
Ian Happ finally got hot for the Cubs
Happ is still hitting below the Mendoza line, but Sunday afternoon served as a glimmer of hope for himself and Cubs fans. He was 3-for-5 with three RBIs on the day for the North Siders, providing a clutch home run in the process.
The Cubs will hope Happ will be able to avoid time on the injured list, but given the severity of the injury, it’s quite possible that could be the best course of action.
We’ll have more on Happ’s injury as information becomes available.
Next. Cubs can either trade Kris Bryant now, or not at all. dark
