Williams initially committed to Ohio State out of St. Louis in Sept. 2018. He played two seasons for the Buckeyes, hauling in nine catches for 154 yards and two touchdowns in the coronavirus-shortened campaign.
Alabama has a phenomenal track record of developing wide receiver talent in recent years. The Crimson Tide need to replace DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle right away.
How much of an impact can Williams have in his first season with the Crimson Tide in 2021?
Alabama football: Jameson Williams is expected to transfer to the Crimson Tide
Even though Williams will be a welcomed addition to the Alabama receiving corps, the Crimson Tide already have John Metchie III, Slade Bolden and a promising freshman in Agiye Hall. This will be Alabama’s first year with Bill O’Brien serving as the Crimson Tide’s offensive coordinator. During his time at Penn State and with the NFL‘s Houston Texans, his wide receivers flourished.
Overall, Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson’s return to Columbus combined with true freshmen Julian Fleming and Marvin Harrison Jr.’s emergence left Williams somewhat marginalized in the Ohio State offense.
While he will probably only be a No. 3 or No. 4 receiving option upon arrival in Tuscaloosa, no program has done a better job of cultivating receiving talent in recent years than Alabama. Williams is going to a good spot.
If Williams is able to make the most of fall camp, he could become an impact player this season.
