Why did Notre Dame football star Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah fall to No. 52?
By John Buhler
Explaining why former Notre Dame football star Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah fell to No. 52 in the 2021 NFL Draft.
We now have a reason behind former Notre Dame football standout linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah slipping all the way to the Cleveland Browns at No. 52 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft.
While it was a nice consolation prize to see Owusu-Koramoah slip to the draft host city’s team, it would have been better to see the unanimous All-American, the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and the Butkus Award winner go in the top 20 like projected. What contributed to Owusu-Koramoah’s unforeseen draft-day slide was a heart issue that came up late in the draft process.
Though he was cleared medically, these heart concerns contributed mightily to his draft slide.
Notre Dame football: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah’s draft slide explained
Had this medical concern not been present, there is a good chance Owusu-Koramoah would have gone as high as the Los Angeles Chargers at No. 13. Owusu-Koramoah would have been the unquestioned second linebacker taken after Micah Parsons out of Penn State. While it stinks that Owusu-Koramoah had to wait until day two to hear his name called, he is going to a great team.
Cleveland doubled-down with promising defensive prospects with their first two selections. The Browns took Northwestern cornerback Greg Newsome II at No. 26 on Thursday night. They join a defense that features the likes of Myles Garrett, Denzel Ward and Jadeveon Clowney. If the Cleveland defense rises to the occasion, the Browns can reach the AFC Championship game.
Here is to Owusu-Koramoah and his new teammates taking the Browns to the Super Bowl.
